Baleal is a small island 3 kilometers north of Peniche, separated from the mainland by a landbridge. It is a beautiful beach divided into a North and South part and has a real laid back surf vibe. Here you will find a nice mix of families and surfers.

There is always one side of the beach where the sea is much calmer, which makes it ideal for surfing, bodyboarding and paddleboarding for all levels. If you decide to give either one of those a try yourself, there are two places where you can rent gear or book a lesson.

If you cross the landbridge that splits the two beaches you can visit the little village of Baleal. There are several nice little beach restaurants on both sides of the landbridge. Some of our favorites are Taberna do Ganhão and Tribo da Praia
